What is VCI?

The VALHEN College Institute (VCI) at Virginia Tech is a four-day residential program hosted at Virginia Tech that focuses on rising high school juniors and seniors in hopes of introducing them to the college search process. We match them up with current college students that lead teams that we call FAMILIAs. The students spend those four days learning from each other as well as their leaders (LEADS and Jr LEADS) and building confidence; not only confidence about getting into Virginia Tech but self-confidence about how to be successful in life.

How is VCI unique?

VCI stands out as a life-changing program that empowers students and fosters lifelong relationships. Unlike general academic programs, VCI is specifically designed for rising high school juniors and seniors, creating a space where they are surrounded by peers who share their cultural backgrounds and language. Students gain invaluable exposure to successful professionals from across the state and engage deeply with issues relevant to their communities, learning how to address and solve these challenges meaningfully.

How can I apply?

Applications will go live on February 7, 2025. This program is only available to Virginia residents. Students must attend a Virginia high school and have a 2.5 minimum GPA to apply. Applications will close on Friday, April 4, 2025. Decisions will be released in mid-May via email.
